This coffee comes from the famed Yirgacheffe region in Ethiopia, south of the Gedeo zone. Processed at the Halo Fafete washing station, this was named after the falls at the nearby hamlet of Halo, with ‘Fafete’ the local name for falls. This processing facility services around 900 smallholder farmers in the area, including the Worka Co-operative, who produced this coffee.

Made up of over 411 members, the Worka Co-operative is part of the much larger Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Co-operatives Union (YCFCU), one of 28 Co-ops YCFCU runs in the area. The region the Worka Co-operative grow coffee is made up primarily of Kudhume, Welisho, and Dego varietals—though there are still thousands of so far uncategorised native heirloom varieties growing together. The Halo Fafate station doubles down on the complexity of the genetic diversity of the area through a unique fermentation process, different from most of Ethiopia. With a very long, wet fermentation of 72 hours, this leads to a super clean acidity and juicy citric flavours. You can taste that through this coffee with a strong Bergamot, tea-like flavour balanced out with sugar cane sweetness.
