WORLD FIRST TAKE-HOME COFFEE COURSE
Can coffee really taste that different?
We think so, and it's way easier to tell than people think. You don’t need to be a master barista or have magic palate training. You just need to taste and compare the right coffees next to each other and notice the difference. That's what we've built.
Learn To Taste Coffee.
PICTURE AIM: summarise what is going to be covered in the course.
HOW DOES THE COURSE WORK?
Roast, Quality, Processing, Origin - these are the most common traits used to describe coffee and they're the four topics you'll be covering in the course.
USE THE CUPPING KIT
Cupping is the method used by professional coffee tasters all over the world. You'll have all the gear to start cupping at home, comparing the three coffees in each module.
FOLLOW THE MANUAL
Stress less, because you'll be guided along your tasting journey with our Tasting Manual and online videos. Coffee discoveries await!
WHAT DO I GET?
Our feature pack includes all the equipment you need to complete the course and start making delicious filter coffee at home.
**Shipping from Melbourne December 11
I ALREADY GRIND AND MAKE COFFEE
If you’re already making coffee and are set with gear, we've got a lighter pack ready to go.
PLESE NOTE: the course can't be completed without scales and a coffee grinder.
**Shipping from Melbourne December 11
BEST XMAS PRESENT EVER
WE'LL SEND YOU A CARD
It's an awesome gift, but the course needs fresh beans to work best. Instead of the pack, we'll send you a pretty card you can gift on the day.
THEY PLUG IN THE CODE
They'll follow the instructions on the card and organise the delivery.
WE SEND FRESH BEANS
We'll send them a course with fresh beans and you'll become someone's Xmas hero - well done.
WHAT AM I LEARNING?
The four topics we’ve chosen represent the information normally found on bag labels and cafe menus; Roast, Quality, Processing, Origin.
Each Module has three coffees, focusing on only one varying trait.
For example, the Roasting Module has the exact same coffee bean roasted three different ways; light, medium, dark. After trying those next to each-other, you’ll know exactly what roasting does to the taste of coffee, because that will be the only difference between the coffees!
WHO IS TEACHING ME?
Lucy is a dead set coffee expert. She's the Head Buyer at ST. ALi, travels the world selecting coffee and is one of only two Assistant 'Q' Trainers in the country. 'Q' Trainers teach people how to grade specialty coffee, Lucy trains the trainers. So yeah, she's badass.
Julian actually invented the course, but doesn't know anything about coffee. What!? Stress less, he worked in the wine industry for 4 years, learnt loads about tasting and teaching and plays the role of guinea pig. Just make sure you listen to Lucy...
READ ME: ALL THE DETAILS
Yes, no one has ever put together a set of coffees designed to teach - that's what makes this course so unique and effective.
For example, the Roast Module has the exact same coffee bean roasted three different ways; light, medium, dark. After you taste those three coffees next to each-other, you’ll know what roast does to the taste of coffee, because that will be the only difference between the coffees - fool proof!
A minimum of four 30 minute classes, making up a total of 2 hours. There's enough of each coffee for 3 brews, meaning you can repeat classes, experiment and take things way deeper if you like.
But technically, because you now own an awesome cupping kit, you're tasting journey is never ending. Lucky you.
Ideally, complete the course within 3 weeks after it arrives, so that you're tasting the freshest coffee possible. The sooner you dive in, the better.
Yes! Cupping is often done in groups, so call all your tasting nerd friends and have deep dive together.
If you're also getting the Clever Dripper, we made sure to pick the 'Large' size so that you can brew enough coffee at once for a group of people.
Despite it looking a little weird, cupping is actually a super helpful process, hence why it's the professional coffee tasting protocol.
There are two main benefits to cupping: it expresses the unique traits of a coffee super strongly and it allows for a fair comparison between coffees. You'll learn loads more about cupping in the course, but to simplify; you grind coffee into the bowls, pour hot water over them, let them brew and then taste with the cupping spoon. It's super easy and fun, trust us.
We love the Clever Dripper because it's such a great beginner brew method. It's super easy to use, is made of awesome durable plastic and most importantly, produces coffee that tastes great.
