PINEAPPLE & PANELA
We started buying coffee from the Vides family in 2017 on a gut feeling and an impromptu visit. Their coffee has been a staple in the microlot program ever since and are still what we think are some of the best lots you can get out of the region.
The Vides family are third generation producers, carrying on the legacy of Jorge Vides who founded their first farm in 1958. Jorge was a doctor but farming and humanitarian efforts were his true passion. Aside from ging medical care to people in remote regions, in 1980 he founded a school that is still maintained to this day on the farms by his descendants.
This natural coffee is yet another cracking lot from the Vides family at Finca El Sarral and is everything you’d expect from a carefully-produced microlot from the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala. After selective handpicking, cherry from Finca El Sarral is delivered to the wet mill at its neighbouring farm (another from the Vides Family), Finca La Bolsa. The cherry is then dried using a mixture of sun-drying on a patio, and a mechanical Guardiola dryer.
