The Guama factory, which opened in 1974, is named after the local village and serves 3,500 small producers, each of whom has, on average, 86 trees.
Coffees at the factory are fermented in fresh water from the Kaboyo River and then dried in the sun on raised beds.
Guama is also one of 12 wet mills that belong to the Baragwi Farmer’s Cooperative Society, which is likewise named after the village where it’s located. Baragwi has more than 16,000 registered members in total and a staff of 137. In the months of February to April, the farms in the region come alive with the coffee and other native trees flowering before the annual harvest from October until December.
