We started buying from the Vides 58 farm in 2017, wholly on a whim. The quality from the six farms associated with this producer has kept us coming back for more every harvest. The original farm, Finca La Bolsa, was established by the family patriarch and farm namesake Jorge Vides in 1958. Jorge was a full-time doctor with the farm his hobby project. The land he bought was originally covered in dense forest, which he cut back and planted with Bourbon and Caturra varieties.

Humanitarian programs have been at the heart of Jorge’s vision for the farm and the wider region. As a doctor, he regularly travelled throughout the region scheduling visits all week long. In 1980, he founded a school that still runs on the farm, named after him and which has since been authorised by Ministry of Education. In 2012 they also opened the doors to Coffee Care, an organisation seeking to reduce child labour and improve quality of life for coffee pickers and their families through the provision of kindergartens and vocational workshops for young children.

This coffee is a beautiful representation of the San Ramon varietal, a natural mutation of Typica, originally from Brazil. Like a delicious baked pear dessert dripping with butter, this coffee is sweet and juicy with a luscious finish.
