Las Flores was founded in 1990 by Edilberto Vergara and Nubia Ayure. The farm was 16 hectares, though only 2 hectares were cultivated in coffee until 1998 when they dedicated the entire farm to coffee. The tradition back then, as is still common in much of Colombia, was to cultivate, harvest, wash, dry, and sell.
The family is five children strong, from eldest to youngest: Xiomara, Leonardo, Carlos, Jhoan and Diego. With the three youngest fully immersed in coffee production.
In 2006 their mother Nubia competed in the Cup of Excellence and was ranked 16th with Las Flores. It was at that moment she took the first steps to dedicate the farm to specialty coffee. When Nubia passed away, she left her children the farm so they could carry on her work in a field that she believed had a bright future.
