Lovely Gift Item - Good Quality Matcha

I purchased the Matcha Latte Tin for my 18-year-old daughter. In her words, "It's one of the better ones!". Lovely little tin!

Not a good matcha

I don’t usually write reviews, but this matcha was so disappointing that I felt compelled to warn others before they make the same mistake I did.

At $54 and marketed as harvested from Uji, Japan, ceremonial grade green tea powder, I expected a vibrant green powder and a clean, rich matcha flavour. Instead, what I received was a dull, dark green powder, closer to the colour of sewage than high-quality matcha. Whether it was due to poor production or old stock, it's clear this matcha had degraded, gone off, or just a poor quality matcha.

The taste was just as bad, it was overwhelmingly bitter with none of the smoothness or depth that good matcha should have. For comparison, I took out a non-ceremonial grade Uji matcha I already had in my fridge. Despite being lower grade, it had a brighter colour and tasted far better, without the unpleasant bitterness.

If someone tried matcha for the first time with this product, it could put them off matcha for life. I love ST. Ali’s coffee and have been a long-time supporter of their coffee, but perhaps they should stick to what they do best, coffee.

Coffee is always amazing but this matcha was pretty disappointing.
