This lot comes to us via the legends at Long Miles Coffee Project, who’ve been rewriting the rules of coffee in Burundi since 2011. Founders Ben and Kristy Carlson saw a broken system with exploitative pricing, dodgy practices, and no real shot for farmers to get ahead, and they decided to build something better. Transparent, farmer-focused, and community-obsessed, the team have gone from working with just 50 farmers in the early days to supporting over 5,500 today. Spread across eleven Hills, they’ve built processing stations in strategic locations so farmers can deliver cherries faster, fresher, and with full traceability. The most remote of these is Ninga, tucked into Muramvya Province. Although farms are occasionally abandoned during times of unrest, and with very little in the way of infrastructure like roads or even electricity, Ninga Hill is producing impressive coffee that could be an analogy for the country of Burundi itself: resilient, grown in adversity, complex, sweet and stunning.
