In 2011, on the brink of losing his farm to low C-market prices, Luis Anibal Calderon took a chance: he would start growing specialty coffee. The profits weren’t much at first, just enough to keep going, but Luis saw the potential in high quality coffee. He planted 5000 Gesha trees, waited three long years, and never looked back. Today, Villa Betulia boasts a wild lineup of varieties: Pink Bourbon, Sidra, Wush Wush, Marageisha, and more, turning near-disaster into one of the most vibrant farms in Colombia.
